Antioxidant activity and identification of bioactive compounds in Telfairia occidentalis leaves using GC-MS analysis

چکیده

Telfairia occidentalis belongs to the family cucurbitaceae. It is a plant with dark green leaves that also bears pod containing edible seeds. widely cultivated in Western Africa, having high commercial importance eastern part of Nigeria. primarily used preparation soup form vegetable and herbal medicines for production blood tonic weak ill person, treatment other ailments. extract fractions were evaluated its phytochemical constituents, antioxidant activities GC-MS analysis on active identify bioactive compounds conferring these using standard procedures. The screening ethanol different revealed presence flavonoids, alkaloids, tannins, saponin, cardiac glycoside anthraquinones. activity was carried out 2, 2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging ferric reducing power (FRAP) model; among ethyl acetate fraction (84.91%;100 µg/mL) demonstrated best DPPH assay followed by (80%;100 µg/mL), dichloromethane(79.51%;100 n-hexane (46.63%;100 IC50 22.56 µg/mL, 37.43 37.59 91.11 µg/mL. Ferric recorded highest at 100 µg/mL effect (1.574 nm) compared ascorbic acid (1.750 nm; DCM (1.040 nm), crude (0.966 (0.724 nm). total 39 from extract; 9 major constituents; oleic acid, (10.27%), acetic (9.66%), hexanoic (7.66%), phytol (7.22%), 18,19-seccoyohimban-19-oic (6.69%), iso-propyl 9,12,15-octadecatrienoate(6.20%), n-hexadecanoic methyl ester (5.83%), trans-geranyl geraniol (4.21%) 9,12- octadecadienoic (4.11%),39 8 (1,1-bicyclopropyl)-2-octanoic (25.87%), quinic (9%), (6.66 %), 9-octadecadienoic (z,z) (5.63 benzofuran (5.34%), oxirane (4.11%), phytol, (2.52 %) vitamin E (2.37%), 37 7 stigmasterol (17.09%), (14.73%), (11.25%), 4,22-stigmastadiene-3-one (9.40%), 7,22-ergostadienol (5.84%), dotricontane (3.88%) eicosane (3.07%). From results T. shows activity. These present could provide rationale ethnomedicinal use management several pathological conditions associated oxidative stress including type 2 diabetes inflammatory conditions.
